The Importance of Youth Protection

Several of Sigma Mu Lambda's programs are targeted at youth:

- Leadership Development Training Institute

Local Programs

- The Ithaca 1906 Education Fund

Sigma Mu Lambda (SML) places the utmost importance on creating the most secure environment possible for the youth in our programs. To maintain such an environment, SML has developed procedural and leadership selection policies. These policies are derived from the requirements of the General Organization of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and from the requirements established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for working with you.

Every volunteer working with youth in one of Sigma Mu Lambda's programs are required to have the checks below made.

FBI Criminal History Background Check		Go to FBI Criminal Background Check Process

The results of the checks are submitted to a secure E-Mail address (Youth Protection E-Mail) and are only accessible by the Chapter President.

The membership profiles for Brothers who have successfully completed all the checks and provided the associated documentation are updated to indicate that the Brother is VERIFIED for Youth Protection.

The verification documentation is stored in a secure folder that is exclusively accessible by the Chapter President.
